vintage report
- Jodie and Kim Espinos
2010 Warm days and cool night
added to the stucture of the fruit in 2010, although a fairly quick vintage
with all white fruit off the vines by april and reds shortly after. The
fruit quality was vert good with bold but restrained fruit charecters on the
Sav blanc giving a fresh and vibrant full flavour wine when in bottle.
Reds have good structure of fruit and tannins with soft acids, a year in
bottle befor release will see them both drinking very well.
2011
A Quick vintage this year due to a burst of hot
weather in late February, we also had a change in viticulture practice this
year with extensive bunch and leaf pruning giving smaller tonnage but
increased flavour,
almost perfect bud
burst and ripening season lead to a mild entrance of summer. Just before
vintage the weather warms up with hot days and there is a race to get the
sauvignon blanc picked and into the winery. The sav blanc is at almost
perfect sugar and acid levels and is first to go to ferment. First tastes
reveals a stunning combination of powerful herbaceous fruit with good crisp
acid and looking like a great year for sav blanc.
The shiraz and merlot were picked a few weeks
later than the whites with still warm weather the reds ripened slowly from
November to February then a spell of hot weather bought the sugar levels up
in a rush. Both reds have good strong fruity characters and balanced acid
and tannins, from first taste after ferment both will progress well in
barrel and will be great drinking when bottled early 2012

Lone Crow shiraz 2008
Shiraz is arguably the back bone of the Australia wine industry and grown in
almost every area of the country. There is wide variation in shiraz styles
across wine areas, from big ripe broad fruit to lean complex cool climate
styles. Geographe with it's warm slow ripening and cooler winters produces
shiraz of delicious proportions, weighty with lovely textured flavours.
Full flavoured but still refined with great balance and classic dark berry
characters of cassis and juicy blackcurrant on the palate, good complexity
runs throughout with balanced tannins and oak. The palate is full, with
fruit flavours blending seamlessly with the cedary, cigar box French oak
notes on the finish. Age 3-5 years
